Hire Achievers is a developmental program focused on providing students with quality work experiences on campus. While in the program, students gain valuable skills that they can apply in the workplace, and later on in future professional settings. 

What are the benefits?

The Hire Achievers program sets students up for success by providing them with on-campus employment opportunities that focus on professional growth. Once they are hired into a qualifying position, students work the entire academic year and participate in monthly modules to expand their understanding of professional skills. Here's a complete list of how students benefit:

Getting ready for the workforce

While working in the Hire Achievers program, student employees complete monthly professional development modules. Students spend no more than an hour of paid work time completing each month's module. Alongside the online modules, students will participate in developmental chats with their supervisors. 

Important concepts such as professionalism, critical thinking, teamwork, and more are covered in the modules. These topics are reflective of the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) career competencies and aligns with one or more of the IU Indianapolis Profiles of Learning for Undergraduate Success. Below is a breakdown of these modules:

After completing this development series and the academic year within their positions, students will receive a certificate of completion and will be able to indicate their Hire Achievers work experience on their IU Indianapolis Experiential and Applied Learning Record.

Frequently Asked Questions

Students must be hired into a Hire Achievers position to be a part of the program. Just like applying for any jobs for Jags, these positions can be found in Handshake and will have “Hire Achievers” at the end of the job title. Log in to Handshake

Positions are only available to work-study eligible students. Visit one.iu.edu and go to the student center to view your financial aid summary. Work-study eligible students will have their work-study award listed in their financial aid breakdown.

Students usually work up to 15 hours per week in Hire Achievers positions. 

If students do not complete the online modules by the end of the academic year, they will not receive a certificate of completion or be able to indicate their Hire Achievers experience on their IU Indianapolis Experiential and Applied Learning Record. 

No. However, students are required to complete monthly modules within the Development Series in Canvas. All modules will be completed during paid work time. 

Qualifying students include:

  • Freshmen or sophomores by academic standing
  • Students enrolled in at least 12 credits
  • Those with a federal work-study award

Beyond the program requirements, students should review the job description to review the position specific qualifications when applying.

Positions have to meet certain criteria to be a part of Hire Achievers. Each varies in requirements, daily tasks, and expectations. Here are a few of the positions the program has previously had:
